Believe it or not, ethanol plants are still being planned for Moore County. Proposed plants will be located north and northeast of Dumas. One project is looking at a cellulosic process and promises to be more efficient in all areas of production. Although various arguments can be made for and against ethanol production, we realize that the industry has many options available to them that may be a good fit within our region. Costs to produce have been reduced through various methods and new ways to produce are becoming more mainstream. Because corn based ethanol can be of concern to many, we are fortunate to have developers seeking to utilize a cellulosic approach. There are two major cellulose hydrolysis (cellulolysis) processes: a chemical reaction using acids, or an enzymatic reaction. The later enables producers to rely less on corn by breaking down the components of other organic materials to free up sugar. We embrace these scientific advances and are willing to meet with developers to discuss potential projects. Ethanol is still being used worldwide and we believe it will continue to be in use for some time. It is simply another alternative energy source that would compliment our local renewable energy industries and compliment our existing oil and gas industriy.
