ENERGY
One of the nation's leading energy locations
With an abundance of natural resources, Dumas is one of the nation's leading locations for oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals — and was once the world leader in helium production. Major operators including Apache, Chesapeake, Conoco-Phillips, BP, and Pioneer Resources drill throughout Moore County.
Sub-businesses across the county support the oil and gas sector with refinery repair and servicing, gas compression, equipment maintenance, carbon black production, asphalt, sulfur products, and byproduct development. The energy sector here is deep, diverse, and still growing.

VALERO MCKEE REFINERY
The engine behind Moore County's industrial economy
One of the most well-connected plants in the entire Valero system, the McKee Refinery is located approximately 17 miles northeast of Dumas in Sunray, TX. With a throughput capacity of up to 170,000 barrels per day, the refinery is a cornerstone of the regional energy economy.
As the McKee Refinery grows, it lifts other local businesses. Its byproducts directly support Continental Carbon — one of the leading producers of carbon black for the global tire industry — as well as a network of area asphalt and pipeline firms. Valero has also installed 33 GE wind turbines just outside the refinery to supplement energy and reduce the facility's carbon footprint.
